Continue reading
“The universe is made of stories, not of atoms”
When you go out and see the world, leaving behind your comfort zone, you realize many truths about the universe and yourself (like the one above). You also realize that you are not the first one to have realized them. Many wise men before you have also passed through the same dilemmas and felt the same emotions as you and they’ve put it so eloquently that you can’t help but quote them. Continuing with our annual tradition of recollecting past year’s travel experiences, this time Pratik, Shabbir and I are sharing our top travel moments of 2015. Moments of wonder, scepticism, fear, determination, joy, serenity. Moments which left a permanent mark. Moments which made us a tad bit wiser. Continue reading
Let me begin this listicle with a very cliched phrase “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. That is exactly what I did while lying on a hospital bed – listened again and again to all the lovely tracks from Coke Studio Pakistan Season 8. It was also the first time that I followed an entire season of coke studio. Unlike, Coke Studio India, the Pakistan version is much more mature and tasteful in terms of music production. The reason being that entire season is produced by one artist, thus maintaining sanctity across all the episodes of the season. Season 8 was produced by a band called Strings, who also produced season 7. They have a done a marvelous job of bringing together fresh talent and experienced artistes together on one platform. With calculated risks of recreating the classics and also creating new music, they have given us 28 songs in all. Here are my top picks from the season which I am sure to listen over and over again until next season. Continue reading
When in the mountains, we are constantly surrounded by nature’s music – rumble of the river, rustle of the leaves crushing under feet, howl of the winds, tweet of birds or buzz of the insects. These sounds give immense joy. We even crave them often on those dull Thursdays in the office. However, the wretched species that we humans are, we simply need to plug in our headphones and listen to our favourite artists, even while attending Mother Earth’s musical concert. Without any further introduction, here is my “mountain playlist”. From Ladakh to Sikkim, these songs have always been a great company. And to be honest, just one article is an injustice to them. I’m a big fan of day dreaming. Although an escapist’s way, it’s a great way to stay happy and maintain your sanity.
As I’m writing the first article of 2015, a montage of exotic places is being played out in my mind. They are those places which I’ve been day-dreaming of since quite some time now and wish to go during this year.
Few of these places may seem a bit too ambitious but who cares? I’m just 24. No reason to not to dream a wild dream. Other places are rather within reach. Hence there are good chances of me (or one of the fellow “partner in crime”) going there. Which will obviously be followed by a detailed post here.
Shortlisting these 15 places was difficult which is why I have also mentioned my thought process behind choosing that particular place. Some of my reasons might seem rather silly. Blame it on my extremely fickle mind when it comes to choosing a travel destinations.
So here goes the 2015 “razalpat” travel bucket list. Continue reading
2014 has been a great travel filled year for all the people associated with Razalpat. We did lots of weekend treks like Sandhan valley, Rajmachi, Shirota, Chinchoti, Thakurwadi, Kalsubai, Visapur, Ratanwadi etc. Highlight of the year was our Ladakh trip. Tosh went to his “namesake” village (Tosh village) in Himachal. Shabbir got his first tent. All of us matured in some way or the other thanks to all this travelling.
Presenting my top 7 mesmerizing moments from 2014. These moments shall be etched forever in my memory. Continue reading
1. Human body can survive harsh weather if the mind is ready to!
There’s a reason why this is the first point I want to talk about. I took this trek (YHAI Dalhousie December snow trek) with my sister and her husband Hardik to introduce them to the beautiful aspects of Himalayas, that lay beyond the beaten tracks literally. But they quit midway!
There were about 50 people in the group and everyone faced the same weather yet some decided to quit the trek on the second day after the first day of intense cold and difficult walk (the trek in the mountains had not begin yet – this was Banikhet to Dalhousie). While those who stayed were equally skeptical of how the days ahead were going to be. Continue reading
Ours is a country where traveling has been always considered synonymous with “sightseeing” and “pilgrimage”. Ours is a society which often looks upon the brave spirited traveller souls with contempt; and calls them all sorts of names from weird to crackpot to selfish. Amidst this foggy, dark night of ignorance and prejudices, YHAI stands out proudly like a bright light on a tower, showing an exalted path to the seekers. Continue reading
